There’s always a mystery to the Dartmoor Ponies; beneath that luxuriant and untamed mane you know they're always watching you, and yet, you can’t see how. I love the ruggedness of this drawing, the way it portrays a pony shaped by the roughness of their uncultivated surroundings; demonstrating a spirit’s adjustment to the rawness of an environment for means of survival, while, amidst their garnered ruggedness, there remains an indelible sense of beauty in the self and a contentment in the freedom of a wild life.
